Flashback to Vicksburg, Mississippi

In the 1860s, the Civil War gunboat USS Cairo was sunk in the Yazoo River near Vicksburg. About 100 years later, the remnants were discovered and raised. The part original material, part restoration USS Cairo is on display at Vicksburg National Military Park.

Flashback to Amarillo, Texas

This interactive sculpture lets you feel like Superman for a moment.  You can easily spin a 1.5 ton sphere of solid granite because it sits on a paper thin layer of water.

High Point, New Jersey

Appropriately enough, New Jersey's high point is the peak of a mountain named High Point. From here, you can see three states: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. And you can have a nice hike!

Carlisle, Pennsylvania

For decades, Kelly and Cindy have been passing the US Army Heritage and Education Center on road trips. Today we finally stopped to see what it was. Among other things, there are numerous displays of historical military equipment, including this vintage World War II Sherman Tank.

Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

The world's largest LEGO replica of the Titanic is displayed at the Titanic Museum. It's 26 feet long and 5 feet tall, but the most amazing statistic is the age of the builder--10 year old Brynjar Karl.

Knoxville, Tennesssee

Not sure what's weirder: that Tennessee has a monument depicting a freakishly large baby getting the polio vaccine from a doctor who appears to be sitting on a yoga ball, or that Tennessee actually has a monument extolling the virtues of vaccination.

Big River Crossing Bridge, Tennessee/Arkansas Line

The boundary between Tennessee and Arkansas is the center of the Mississippi River, and you can walk there, with a little help from a mile-long bridge! That's Memphis in the distance.
