Rietbrock, Wisconsin

At 45 degrees north latitude and 90 degrees west longitude, this spot is the center of the northern half of the western hemisphere. Apparently this is a noteworthy thing - it is located inside a cornfield in a remote area, and yet we were not alone visiting this place.

A brass ring in the middle of 8th Street in Manitowoc, Wisconsin marks the spot where a Sputnik satellite crashed on September 6, 1962. Manitowoc celebrates the anniversary annually with Sputnikfest, which we sadly are missing by just a few days.

Brookville, Pennsylvania

In 1912 and 1913, Douglas Stahlman carved verses from scripture, biblical references, and personal messages on at least 165 rocks. They are worn and hard to read today, but they are preserved at Scripture Rocks Heritage Park.
