Houston, Texas
It's not all fun and games. A flying rock cracked our windshield in Mississippi, but we were able to get it repaired by Abraham, a "pop-up" windshield repair guy located in a Sam's Club parking lot.

Atchafalaya Swamp, Louisiana
Blindly following Waze through Louisiana, we discovered ourselves on an aging bridge through a watery area. It went on and on and on. We later learned that we had crossed the 18-mile-long Atchafalaya Basin Bridge through the largest swamp in the US.
No surprise, the image is not ours. Credit goes to an anonymous Tripadvisor contributor.

Jackson, Mississippi
Today we located (after some searching!) an abandoned 200-acre replica of the Mississippi River Basin, modeling the Mississippi River and its tributaries, complete with cities, levees, and bridges. This picture is just one small piece of it. The Army Corps of Engineers used it from 1966 to 1972 so they could study how best to place dams and levees on the Mississippi River to control flooding. Goats on the Roof is the ultimate tourist trap. Goats on the roof, homemade fudge, and homemade ice cream. (Many great ice cream flavors, but I highly recommend nutty goat.)

At the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site, the goats are very friendly, and they really, really want you to read poems to them.

The world's biggest ham, oldest ham, and oldest peanut at the Isle of Wight County Museum. Some say they are still edible. No thanks.
