Today we located (after some searching!) an abandoned 200-acre replica of the Mississippi River Basin, modeling the Mississippi River and its tributaries, complete with cities, levees, and bridges. This picture is just one small piece of it. The Army Corps of Engineers used it from 1966 to 1972 so they could study how best to place dams and levees on the Mississippi River to control flooding.
