Mud Island Park along the actual Mississippi River features a 1/2 mile long scale model of the Mississippi River and its flood plains, where 1 step (30 inches) equals a mile of the river. You can enjoy the sculpture any time, and when the water is running, you can cool your feet in the river or in the big wading pools at the end, which represent Lake Pontchartrain and the Gulf of Mexico.
