Several days of ice in the forecast, so we're waiting it out inside with hot chocolate and Netflix!

Dallas, Texas
Old City Park is a snapshot of late 19th century Dallas, with many historic buildings and lots of farm animals, including new friends Willie and Waylon!

Dallas, Texas
The cattle drive sculpture at Pioneer Park has over 30 larger-than-life-size longhorn steers and a couple of trail riders. Moo!

Dallas, Texas
The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum acknowledges the defining moment of his presidency with a 9/11 memorial. The twisted beams from the collapsed towers are surrounded by the names of those who lost their lives that day.

Grand Saline, Texas
The Salt Palace (behind me) is constructed of salt "boulders" and houses a small museum that tells the story of Grand Saline, which is the home of Morton Salt and the largest salt mine in the US. I now know everything about salt. (Maybe take that with one very large grain of salt!)

Driskill Mountain, Louisiana
We had a pleasant hike on a beautiful day to the Driskill Mountain summit in Louisiana -- my 10th state high point!

Claiborne County, Mississippi
Considered iconic by some, the imposing Windsor Ruins are the eerie remains of the largest antebellum mansion ever built in Mississippi. The Corinthian columns still stand alone in the woods, 132 years after the rest of the house was destroyed by a fire.

Hattiesburg, Mississippi
The Hattiesburg Pocket Museum is an alley full of whimsey, including hundreds of impossibly tiny figures living their lives. These three tiny men are climbing the wall to rescue a tiny ram from a tiny alcove.

Mobile, Alabama
The USS Alabama is a wonderfully preserved World War 2 era battleship. It's enormous - most of the ship is open to the public, and it takes hours to fully see it all.

Foley, Alabama
Lambert's Restaurant is famous for its "throwed rolls." The delicious rolls, hot out of the oven, are served by a cheerful waitress with a great arm. She will not hand you a roll, but she will happily throw you one, whether it is a short toss from your tableside or across the room!

Josephine, Alabama
"Bamahenge" is a full-scale, partial replica of Stonehenge, inexplicably hanging out in a clearing in the woods in southern Alabama for no apparent reason.

Pensacola, Florida
We boarded a replica of the Pinta (of Columbus fame). The Pinta and its crew (4 people and 1 dog) tours for about 9 months each year, going from port to port.

Britton Hill, Florida
At 345 feet, Florida's high point is the lowest of the 50 states. Kelly's state high point #23, Cindy's #18, KC's #9.

Dothan, Alabama
Dothan, Alabama calls itself the "Peanut Capital of the World," with half of all US peanuts produced within 100 miles of the city. There are around 70 decorated 4-foot tall "peanuts" in Dothan, including the Fire Department's peanut fire hydrant and dalmatian (who was caught by surprise when I photo-bombed the picture!)

South Carolina State House
The plaque on this statue of George Washington says that Union soldiers in Sherman's army broke the cane on this statue nearly 160 years ago. If they truly valued the statue, why would they choose to install a permanent accusatory plaque instead of repairing the sword?

High Point, North Carolina
This is the biggest chest of drawers in the world, but all I can think about is how much I want to chew on those socks!
